Accessibility

We want this website — and Glover Memorial Hall — to be usable by everyone. Here is where we stand, and how to tell us when we fall short.

Our target

This website is built to meet WCAG 2.2 Level AA. That standard is a floor, not a finish line, and we treat accessibility defects as bugs rather than enhancements.

What we have done

  • Semantic HTML with a single, correct heading hierarchy on every page.
  • A visible skip link to the main content on every page.
  • Full keyboard operability — navigation, dropdown menus, filters, accordions and forms all work without a mouse, with visible focus indicators throughout.
  • Descriptive alternative text on meaningful images; decorative imagery is hidden from assistive technology.
  • Text and interface colours checked against AA contrast ratios in both the light and dark sections of the site.
  • Form fields with persistent visible labels, clear required-field marking, and inline error messages tied to their inputs.
  • Type that scales with the browser and reflows without horizontal scrolling down to 320 px.
  • Motion and transitions suppressed for visitors who set prefers-reduced-motion.
  • Live regions announcing filter and search result counts.

Known limitations

  • Some archive photography carries generic alternative text pending re-captioning of the historic image library.
  • Embedded video hosted on third-party platforms depends on captions supplied at source; we are auditing our back catalogue.

Tell us when we get it wrong
